Schedule Fingerprinting

Applying for a clearance card?

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) issues fingerprint clearance cards. When you send your prints on a paper card, the steps run like this.

  1. Apply with DPS

Apply and pay the DPS fee on the DPS Public Services Portal. When DPS asks how you will send your fingerprints, choose paper fingerprint cards.

  2. Bring the affidavit

Print the Non-IVP Fingerprint Affidavit from the DPS clearance card page. Bring it with your DPS reference number and your photo ID.

  3. We take and seal your prints

We print your fingerprints on the card, complete the technician’s part of the affidavit and seal both in an envelope, as DPS requires.

  4. The envelope goes to DPS

For a non-IVP card, send the sealed envelope as your application instructions describe. DPS accepts paper prints only when they arrive sealed with the affidavit.

For an IVP card, we mail the sealed packet to DPS for you.

What to bring to your appointment.

We have the fingerprint card ready for you. Bring these three things.

  • Photo ID

A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID, like a driver license or passport. DPS asks the technician to compare it with your card.

  • Your DPS paperwork

For a clearance card: your DPS reference number and the Non-IVP Fingerprint Affidavit. Applying for an IVP card? Bring the IVP packet DPS mailed you. We mail it back to DPS for you.

  • A payment card

We take card payments only, for our fee at your visit. You pay the DPS fee when you apply.

Do you still offer fingerprinting in Chandler?

Our Chandler office moved to south Tempe, just off Baseline Road. Chandler residents book the same services at 4677 S Lakeshore Dr #1, Tempe. We no longer take fingerprints at our former Alma School Road office.

Are you part of Arizona DPS?

No. Hand N Hand is a private fingerprinting service and is not affiliated with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. We take your prints. DPS reviews your application and decides on your card.

DPS explains its process on its fingerprint clearance card page.

Do I need an IVP or a non-IVP card?

Ask the employer or agency that requires your card. DPS runs the same background check for both. The difference is how paper fingerprints reach DPS. For an IVP card, DPS mails you a packet with its own cards and return envelope. Bring it to your appointment. We take your prints on its cards and mail the sealed packet to DPS for you.

Can I apply and pay the DPS fee online?

Yes. DPS takes clearance card applications and its fee on the Public Services Portal. Our fee for taking your prints is separate and paid at your visit.

How long does an appointment take?

Around 30 minutes or less, depending on how ready you are. Having your ID and paperwork in hand keeps it short. How long your background check takes depends on the agency reviewing it.

How much does fingerprinting cost?

$45 for a no-ink card, $65 for an ink card and $95 for an ATF EFT file on a flash drive. Fees charged by DPS or other agencies are separate.
